Minneapolis, Feb. 5, 2018 – Being thrifty is romantic. That according to a January 2018 survey by digital marketing promotions company YA. More than half (51 percent) of respondents said that they would think their significant other would be “thrifty and smart” if they used a rebate to purchase a Valentine’s Day gift. Forty-eight percent said they wouldn’t care if and only 1 percent said they’d be offended if their sweetie looked for rebate deals for a gift.
“Paying full price doesn’t make a gift more heartfelt,” said YA CEO Chris Behrens. “And today, with the ease of digital rebate submissions, saving is easy and, as the survey respondents said, smart.”
In fact, according to the survey, rebates may make the gift even more thoughtful. Fifty-eight percent of respondents said they’d either share the rebate with their significant other or buy them something with the extra money.
And while the survey shows the majority (58 percent) of respondents would be more likely to buy a Valentine’s Day gift for their sweetie if there was a rebate attached, 60 percent said they’d keep it a secret from their significant other.
Finally, the survey shows that some deals make consumers dream big. More than three-quarters (76 percent) of respondents said they would participate in an enter-to-win program that had a romantic Valentine’s Day present (e.g. trip, jewelry, clothing, wine) as a prize.
“Retailers should take note that consumers will in fact take advantage of promotions on romantic gifts this Valentine’s Day, and it’s really worth it for consumers to look for those deals that might allow them to afford an even nicer gift,” said Behrens.
